For the first time in 7 years, Delirium Books is opening to the public for submissions. The following projects are now open until Dec. 15, 2009.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

DEADLINE: December 15, 2009

FOCUS: Delirium Books is committed to the development of digital books. Its focus is to use this new technology to expand an author’s readership and reach new demographics to expand horror literature. Each book accepted for this digital line will be treated like any other book we produce (professionally edited, proofed, and with a full color original cover contracted). It will be available exclusively through Delirium’s parent company, Horror Mall, for the first 6 months, then released to other major sellers like Amazon’s Kindle, Mobipocket and Sony stores. These digital titles will be sold for $1.49-$5.95 and available as PDF (for Desktop Reading), EPUB (for Sony Reader/Stanza) and MOBI (for Kindle and Mobipocket) downloads. Some of the accepted manuscripts will be released as an audiobook download (.MP3 for iPod or other audio devices). The shorter works accepted will be compiled into a digital anthology series called HorrorWired.

WHAT TO SUBMIT: Horror only. No cross-genre (Horror/Sci-fi, for example). Fiction only. Original, absolutely no reprints. Single short stories, novelettes and novellas only. No collections.

WORD COUNT:Strictly 5,000-20,000.

RIGHTS: All print, digital & audiobook rights for 5 years. This excludes year’s best anthologies. Author can request removal of their digital edition after 5 years and all rights completely revert back to them.

PAYMENT: Five cents per word payable within 60 days of signing contract. Established authors with significant fan bases may query about higher advances and additional royalties by using the following contact form:

SUBMISSIONS: Electronic submissions only. RTF or DOC file. Please do NOT send us snail mail! Absolutely NO simultaneous submissions. Within your file, please include name, address, e-mail, phone, word count and marketing synopsis (250 words or less, something that will sell your story to readers).

Important: Please title your .doc or .rtf file by its title with underscores separating words. For example: If your title is called “Hellbound Heart” then your file should be uploaded as hellbound_heart.doc. This is so that we can locate files in our system if queried.

TURNAROUND: 6 months or less.

WHAT TO EXPECT:If accepted, we will contact you via e-mail with contract attached. If rejected, a simple form letter sent via e-mail (we unfortunately do not have the time to critique manuscripts for authors, so please don’t expect feedback).

HELPFUL TIPS:

• Submit your best work. The days of digital / ebooks being second rate to print are over. Delirium will only accept the best fiction for its digital line.

• Do NOT send follow up e-mails or letters unless it’s past 6 months from submission. Check your spam box before querying to make sure our correspondence hasn’t been filtered.
